If you can help with computer inputting or like the idea of volunteering at Downes, please get in touch!
We have five rooms at Downes, three used for storage and until we needed to devote so much of our time to running the museum, things were reasonably up to date. However, over the last 3 years, things have slipped a little. Over the last couple of months 6 or 7 of us have made enormous strides in clearing things up and organising the storage better.
Our volunteers are finding it fascinating to discover important information tucked away in all the boxes! Like any archive, it is impossible
to catalogue absolutely everything accurately, so a search can produce exciting finds - like the official report on the 1948 London Olympics John Heal found just a few weeks ago!
Soon we will start cataloguing our collection, including a huge amount of photographs, using new museum software we recently acquired. If you can help with computer inputting or like the idea of volunteering at Downes, please get in touch with Sandra Cooper.
