A number of CAHMS members have been cleaning up and attempting to identify the tools and other artefacts acquired in the 'Knowle Hoard', a substantial collection from the former Mitchell wheelwright and builder's workshop in Knowle. Below are photographs of a small selection. It will be fairly apparent that we don't know what all of them are. If you can add to our limited knowledge, please get in touch:
Here's a nice old blowtorch, unmarked but similar to those made by Primus and others:
The next 2 pictures show equipment for cutting external threads on bar or rod:
We're not sure what either of these is for:
We know exactly what this is. It's a lathe tool for cutting a cylindrical end in a wooden wheel spoke, so it will fit in a round hole in either the wheel's hub or rim, or both:
This is motorcycle rear lamp, missing its lens. We think it might have used acetylene as fuel:
