Crediton Through the Ages

Launch of Sandra Cooper's excellent overview of Crediton history.

Launched at CAHMS’s 2017 Autumn coffee morning, Crediton Through The Ages is the latest book in the Crediton History Series. It was written by Sandra Cooper, who recently retired after serving the society for 3 years as Chairman.

40 pages long, the A5 size softback is fully illustrated with colour images from our photograph and map collection. It starts with Crediton’s 300 million year old Permian geology, and works forward through early settlements, religious establishments, field patterns, various industries, the Prayer Book Rebellion and Civil War, the fire and many of the buildings, institutions and individuals which have contributed to the town’s unique character. An excellent introduction for anyone curious about the town.

Sales were brisk at the coffee morning, which raised about £150 to help support the town museum. The book is available in the museum (check opening times), the Community Bookshop and the Crediton Courier office. It can also be purchased online from the books page on this website.
