Introducing the Devon Rural Archive. We are encouraged to visit!
Amber Goldhahn, Archive & Engagement Manager of the Devon Rural Archive, has been in touch to introduce the DRA, thus:
'I’d like to introduce myself as the Manager of the Devon Rural Archive (DRA). We are keen to welcome more local groups, such as yours, to visit the Archive and spend time exploring our collections. We also arrange guided group tours of the stunningly restored House and Gardens here at Shilstone. I’ve included more information below which I hope is of interest, and I very much hope you decide to visit us!
The Archive
Funded by the Fenwick Charitable Trust and open to the public, the DRA is an independent heritage centre with a focus on the parishes, landscapes, and buildings of Devon. We hold a unique and growing collection of books, journals, maps, documents, images, and oral history recordings that trace our county’s rich history. If you plan to visit, we can arrange to bring out items – including from our special care collection – that relate to your group’s interests.
Guided tours
Our popular guided House and Garden tours, led by one of the owners, provide a fascinating insight into the history and restoration of the Shilstone estate. Set in 500 acres of beautiful Devon countryside, Shilstone House is a grade II listed Georgian Manor House that was virtually rebuilt in the 2000s. Catering
We have a Café and Restaurant on site at Shilstone, and we offer group catering options including seasonal lunch menus and afternoon tea. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your requirements.
