Nearly 70 people packed the Boniface Centre for a talk by Lawrence Hunt who is an exteacher and geographer with an interest in architectural photography. He picked a house for each letter of the alphabet, starting with Ashbury west of Okehampton. It had been of Victorian red stone but now only the gateposts remain. Bocconnoc in Cornwall came next which was built in the 19th century by the Pitt family. It was taken over by the army in the war and then abandoned. It is being restored and the gardens are open for charity. Cullacott near Callington is now a holiday let. Originally a small medieval hall house, it was added to in the 18th century and used as a farmhouse. It has old wall paintings on the upper floors.
Lawrence continued on through the alphabet showing us the photos he has taken over the years and amusing us with anecdotes about his travels round the area. I have a list of the houses he mentioned noting which are open to the public if you are interested.
