Our exhibition for the summer of 2012 includes a number of Civil War artefacts loaned to the museum by the Governors of the Parish Church. Other exhibits recognise the achievements of notable sports persons of Crediton.

This year's exhibition features the model of the town that was created by Jack Whitfield of Black Dog in 1980. He used the map of 1743 made just before the Great Fire in August of that year and followed the pictures of the houses represented when making his models. The model was for many years housed in the chapter house of Crediton Parish Church but recent work to the church’s electrical supply has meant it had to find a ‘new home’. Cosmetic restoration work was expertly done by society member, Capt David Dornom.

In addition to the model we will have on show some of the finds from archaeological excavations made in the last 30 years near the parish church; the site of the new rectory, the church car park, the site of the Boniface Centre and at 35 East Street before the flats were built.

We are also celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with photographs of local royal visits, coronation and jubilee parties and much more, with Royal memorabilia and household objects from the time of the coronation.

Lastly, by kind permission of the Church Governors, items usually stored at the church have been loaned to the museum so that more local residents can learn about them. There are objects, including a coat, boots, musket barrels and saddle, left in the town by the Cromwellian army when they were here during the English Civil War, and other interesting items found in the church.
