Talk on Railway in Devon by Amyas Crump (Newton St Cyres History Group event)

When: to March  2015
Where:Newton St Cyres Village Hall, EX5 5BL
Who:Amyas Crump

A Newton St Cyres History Group event.

Held in the Club Room of the Village Hall starting at 7.30pm. There is a small fee of £2 to cover costs and to include tea and biscuits.

Last May  Malcolm Brooks assisted by Tim Sedgewick and Chris Southcott spoke about our local Exeter to Crediton line and its history. Amyas Crump who has a large collection of railway slides will aim to show us the bigger picture and tell us more of the lines to Barnstaple and to Okehampton and Plymouth. The latter now out of use, is currently of interest as a possible inland route to Plymouth and Cornwall avoiding the problems of Dawlish. Until 1964 express trains rattled through Newton St Cyres on their way to the North Coast or to the far SW and we had a direct connection with Waterloo.
