Background
Charles was born in Crediton in 1895.
His father, Lewis Edmund St Lo Auber, was born in North Petherton, Somerset in 1858 and became a bank manager. His mother, Louisa Jane Knapman was born in Totnes in 1867. They were married in 1888 at Wellington, Somerset and later lived at Westholme in Crediton.
In 1911 Charles lived at 5 Searle Street in Crediton.

Second Leiutenant Royal Field Artillery, 4th Wessex Brigade.
In Memorium
Charles was killed in action in France on 29th October 1916, age 21. He is buried at the Maroeuil British Cemetery
A Memorial plaque is displayed in Holy Cross Parish Church Crediton it's dedication being reported in the Parish Magazine for Dec 1917.
Memorial Service - Preb. The Rev. W M Smith-Dorrien conducted the Dedication Service of a memorial tablet to the late Lieut. Charles St Lo Auber, at the Church of the Holy Cross, Crediton, this afternoon. The solemn service was semi-private. The relatives present were Mr and Mrs St Lo Auber (parents), Miss Auber and Miss M Auber (sisters). The tablet has been placed just within the north door of the Church. It is in oak, carved in bold relief. Surmounted with the family crest, it bears the legend: "For Freedom and Honour." At the foot, surrounded with folitaed vine, is the regimental badge, the inscription reading: "In ever loving memory of Charles St Lo Auber, only surviving son of Lewis F St Lo and Louisa J Auber, of this town, Lieut. RFA attached Trench Mortar Battery, who was killed in action in France, 29th October 1916 and was buried in Maroeuil British cemetery, aged 21." Lieut. Auber fell a victim to a sniper's bullet twelve months ago. Great distress was shown in Crediton at his death, and the keenest sympathy felt with Mr and Mrs St Lo Auber.
