In World War Two, the Crediton area was seen by many as a safe place to live. Evacuees arrived in their hundreds to escape the blitz affecting cities and ports; whole families moved to local villages.
But nowhere in Britain was untouched by the war, and the Crediton area had its own ARP wardens, Land Army Girls, Home Guard units and WVS helpers, all ‘doing their bit’ for the war effort.
Wardens, Gas Masks & Rural Meat Pies uses a wealth of archive material and personal recollections to reveal many stories about what life was like in and around Crediton, on the Home Front, during World War Two.
