The Home Front - Crediton in World War Two

Crediton Museum's 2025 exhibition

In 2025 we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

We asked ourselves 'What was life like on the Home Front, in and around Crediton, during the War?'

Our exhibition presents different aspects of that story, including

•the Evacuees who came to live here

• the Civil Defence, Home Guard and WVS Volunteers who stepped forward to help

• the Land Army ‘Girls’ who came to work on local farms

• Food (British Restaurants, Rationing, Rural Meat Pies)

A lot of original research went into this exhibition : you’ll find the names of many local people and information about many local places.

And if you want to discover even more, our brand new book Wardens, Gas Masks & Rural Meat Pies is on sale at the museum.

The exhibition opens at Crediton Museum on Wednesday 9th April and runs until Autumn 2025. Opening hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday : and 11:00am to 2:00pm each Saturday

As in previous years, there is no admission charge, but we welcome donations.
